Ten companies control the models most of the world uses. The EU has an AI Act. The US just dismantled its AI Safety Office. Canada has nothing.

Nobody is drawing the line for us.

Sarah Downey spent 20 years doing change management for nonprofits. She's watched AI reshape the sector from the inside — the real harm (a family member lost $10,000 to a deepfake scam) and the real hope (nonprofits using AI to tell stories without violating privacy of vulnerable populations).

Her approach isn't about waiting for regulation. It's about developing an inner compass — connecting tool use to personal values, one decision at a time.

She trained an image generator on her own watercolor style — 20 paintings, pen-and-ink, no art theft. She lists sources whenever she uses AI for writing. She built a Critical Thinking MCP server — 1,300 entries, 200 biases, 188 thinking lenses, Indigenous reasoning models — because the best tool against bias is a framework that helps you see your own.
